Eligibility, safety, and bout regulations

Rules

These are draft competition rules for planning purposes. Final official regulations will supersede this page when published by the organizers.

1. Eligibility

  • Teams must represent a university or research laboratory.
  • A named faculty advisor or principal investigator is required.
  • Recommended team size: 3–12 active members.
  • Multiple teams from the same institution may be allowed subject to organizer approval.

2. Hardware & software

  • Primary platform: Unitree G1 (configuration details to be confirmed).
  • Software stacks may be fully custom (onboard and offboard).
  • External sensing and compute are allowed only if listed in the official permitted equipment schedule.
  • Weapons, cutting edges, projectiles, and hazardous fluids are prohibited.
  • Structural modifications that increase strike mass or sharp contact surfaces are prohibited.

3. Safety

  • All robots must support an organizer-approved emergency stop.
  • Pre-bout technical inspection is mandatory.
  • Unsafe behavior results in warnings, point deductions, or disqualification.
  • Human handlers must remain outside the active bout zone during competition.

4. Bout format

  • Bouts consist of timed rounds with rest intervals (exact timing TBD).
  • A referee may pause or stop a bout for safety or technical faults.
  • Scoring emphasizes controlled contact, ring craft, and system reliability.
  • Knockdowns and immobilizations are scored according to the official scoring sheet.

5. Judging & decisions

  • Decisions may be by points, technical knockout criteria, or referee stoppage.
  • Protests must be filed within the published protest window.
  • Organizer rulings on safety are final.

6. Code of conduct

  • Teams treat opponents, officials, and staff with respect.
  • Cheating, sabotage, and unsafe intentional acts result in expulsion.
  • Research integrity standards apply to technical reports and media claims.
